Multi-State GIS-Based Cost Estimate System for Building ADHS
Track: Transportation
Author(s): Sang Hong Yoo, Jason Wang

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) and the Rahall Transportation Institute (RTI) have an ongoing project to create a regional Geographic Information System for the Appalachian Development Highway System (ADHS). After completion of phase I of the project, the base mapping stage in April of 2005 the ARC was challenged with updating and maintaining the system with the most current data from 13 Department of Transportation. As a result, the ARC partnered with RTI to develop a Web-based GIS to allow sever/client technology to update the ADHS over the internet. This approach will improve regional highway data integration by creating and expanding additional capabilities of a web-based enterprise GIS system with geospatial tools specifically designed to edit, analyze, printing, and query specific information from remote locations to the Cost to Complete Estimate's centralized data warehouse.
