Abstract Creating Walking Routes to School Using the Network Analyst Extension Track: Transportation Author(s): John Ritsko The City of Henderson "Walking Routes to School Program" is an annual program that will provide a comprehensive traffic and pedestrian safety plan for the elementary schools located within Henderson city limits. This program is developed with the use of the Esri suite of products. The program involves an annual field survey and GPS collection of all school-related and City traffic control devices for the entire City of Henderson which includes 25 elementary schools. This inventory provides the foundation for the walking route network. The goal of our program is to create a web-based, user friendly application for the citizens of Henderson that will provide a visual representation of possible walking routes to school. These specific Walking Routes are generated with the Network Analyst Route Solver tool. We also use the Service Area tool to analyze walking distances from the schools to find deficiencies in our walking routes.
