Abstract Analytical Models as Planning Tools for Emergency Medication Dispensing Track: Health and Human Services Author(s): Nicholas Jackson, Julie Kanzler As a part of the Washington DC Metropolitan Statistical Area, both Arlington County and the City of Alexandria are participating in the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) City Readiness Initiative (CRI) mandating jurisdictions to develop a plan for the delivery of medication to 100% of the population within 48 hours. Emergency health planners in these two neighboring jurisdictions turned to their GIS shops in an effort to employ spatial analysis to devise strategies to meet CDC's criteria. Alexandria was the first to respond to the challenge by generating a city-wide boolean raster allocation model of pedestrian barriers and optimizing distribution center locations based on walking accessibility, (relative to population distribution), evenness of allocation, and landmark quality. Arlington County followed suit with a cost allocation model which takes into account walking distance and household population. This presentation will discuss selection criteria and present opportunities for resource optimization between the two jurisdictions.
