WaterOne's Journey to a Successful SAP-GIS Integration
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): Steve Voelker

Integrating existing software systems can be a daunting, challenging and often time-consuming task that, if successful, brings a tremendous amount of benefits to a company's various business departments. It can also increase work flow, employee productivity and customer satisfaction as well as provide better asset integrity and conformance to federal/state regulations and laws.

WaterOne, a quasi municipal water district serving 140,000 customers in Eastern Kansas, had been working to integrate their existing ERP system, SAP, with their GIS system for multiple years. The company went through several iterations of this integration starting with a home grown solution to now utilizing a pre-packed integration product. This presentation will focus on the various challenges that WaterOne encountered throughout their ERP-GIS integration projects and how they overcame these challenges. Particular attention will be paid to best practices that others can utilize to make their integration project also a success.
