MyCobbCounty: Using ArcGIS Server to Answer Frequently Asked Questions
Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Christian Okeke, Wayne Zhang, Tim Scharff

Over the last 8 years, Cobb County GIS has implemented several GIS applications that help both residents and County employees realize the benefits of GIS. Among these applications, and perhaps the most visible, are the County web-mapping sites, which allow users to easily access GIS data and create/print maps with little or no training. Continuing this trend, and going beyond the map, Cobb County GIS has created a new website called MyCobbCounty. The website which wad developed using ArcGIS Server, VB.Net and AJAX technologies, helps residents and county employees get answers to frequently asked questions about an address. Some of the questions currently answered include who are my elected officials, and where are the nearest places of interest (e.g., parks, schools and fire stations), but MyCobbCounty is designed to be scalable as additional data come online and other external systems are integrated with the enterprise GIS.
