Abstract Using Web 2.0 and Esri for Rich Climate Analysis Track: Application Development Author(s): Xueming Wu, Ian Cottingham With the growing prevalence of web-based mapping technologies an increased demand for high performance web-delivered spatial content has developed. The emergence of Web 2.0, specifically AJAX, related technologies allows developers to meet this demand for GIS linked applications and remain competitive in an ever changing application space. This paper presents a framework for the integration of the popular Google Maps web-application and a climate modeling data infrastructure built using ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE. The integration is achieved through the use of Google's Keyhole Markup Language (KML) or managed image tile representations of GIS artifacts. Specifically discussed in this paper are the technical approaches for creating tile image based layers for Google Map objects at different zoom levels using ArcGIS Server, centered around the design of components to create vector data from large climate data-sets and translation of this data into a RASTER data-set through interpolation.
