Abstract A New International Boundary Database Model Track: Database Design, Automation, and Management Author(s): Cheryl Hedgman A new ArcGIS data model is proposed for managing international political boundary data and supporting cross border analysis. Political boundaries are complex spatial features with components supported by separate legal and political instruments. Modeling international boundaries in a GIS is a critical task for users and a data model which maintains the dependencies between political boundaries and the legal instruments is needed. The current graphics only approach to boundaries fails to retain the link between the supporting legal and political instruments and the boundary line. This project developed a proposed data model for maintaining the link between international boundaries and the supporting legal instruments, in addition to the graphic boundary depiction. The data model is prototyped using ArcGIS and a Geodatabase. Cheryl Hedgman U.
