Abstract Integration of Remote Sensing and GIS to Evaluate Watershed Conditions Track: Water Resources Author(s): William Roper High-resolution airborne photography was collected over Arlington County Virginia to achieve a six-inch spatial accuracy. The photographic mosaic was then ortho-rectified using ground control points and converted to digital imagery. The Little Pimmit Run watershed was delineated and polygon data was created representing a set of ground characteristics related to surface imperviousness. The set of surface area characteristics selected for the study were roads, sidewalks, roofs, driveways, and parking lots. Numerical analysis was conducted to determine the total area of these surface characteristics in the watershed. The impervious surface in the watershed was determined to be 34.7% of the total land area. Impervious surface areas for all of the sub-elements of impervious surface were also calculated and are presented in the paper. Results showed new flood control options for the project.
