Research Domain Templates for the Tropic Regions Test Center
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): George Newbury

The Tropic Regions Test Center (TRTC), an element of the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command, routinely tests a variety of equipment and systems in tropical environments to evaluate the suitability of such materiel for operational missions. Spatial data is an important component in conducting these tests, and is often needed for planning experiment location, layout, and logistics. This paper outlines a methodology for integrating spatial data into the TRTC test and exercise regime using an ArcGIS-based toolset for organizing disparate datasets according to common research domains. Particular emphasis is placed on building a suite of research domain templates that, for a specific experiment, allows analysts to identify frequently used data types and then quickly stand-up a simple and efficient GIS to assist in the experiment planning and execution. The toolsets also include ArcMap templates and commonly used GIS analysis tools.
