Abstract Understanding Medical Products Donation Practices in Ghana with GIS Track: Health and Human Services Author(s): Seth Wiafe, Ogonnaya Dotson-Newman, Winnifred Oware, Frank Badu, John Ayeh, Daniel Ganu Pharmaceutical companies, medical equipment manufacturers, humanitarian aid, and other non-governmental organizations involved with medical products donation play important role in financing, advocating, and delivery of healthcare services. It is estimated that medical donations account for more than half of all medical supplies in countries where pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and other supplies are difficult to acquire regularly. Managing these donation programs require efficient system that adheres to high standards in tracking, storage, transporting, and distributing. This project utilizes a variety of geographic information system (GIS) tools to identify and survey locations of organizations that manage and distribute donation products in Ghana. We implemented a multilevel spatial analysis on the survey data to determine the geographic variation of current medical products donation in Ghana. Preliminary results indicate that medical donation practices are currently concentrated in the southern part of Ghana.
