Abstract GIS Weather Data from NWS Track: Climate, Weather, and Atmosphere Author(s): Ira Graffman, Keith Stellman, Paul Kirkwood During the hurricane season of 2007, NOAA's (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) National Weather Service (NWS) ran as semi-operational ArcIMS site called EMHURR. This site was designed to provide Emergency Managers a means for accessing real time weather data both prior to and after the land fall of a tropical storm or hurricane. This service migrated from a development server at NWS HQ to the NWS Service Southern Region web farm and it served out Tropical Storm/Hurricane information as GIS ready data (image, feature, WMS services, shapefile download). Hurricane model, warning polygons, sateliite, and radar imagery was also be viewable and available through this GIS server. It is hoped to expand the service to add more data types and to be in an operational mode with additional servers and software.
