Track: Parks and Natural Reserves
Author(s): George Raber, Steve Schill

The Mesoamerica and Caribbean (MAC) Region's Conservation Information System (CIS) is designed to further TNC's mission by providing our staff access and concerned partners to the latest conservation GIS data, information, knowledge, and tools. The MAC region is consolidating all spatial and non-spatial files onto a centralized intranet-based server located at the Costa Rica office and developing a number of support tools based on Esri's ArcGIS server technology. This enables access to the most current GIS data layers available for the MAC region, and users are able to view, query, and download GIS data, export maps, and execute simple GIS tools. Taking advantage of the CIS server computer processing power, this site also provides access to more advanced GIS tool that have been customized to execute conservation models using a simple user interface to provide status indicators of viability, threat, and conservation management at various scales.
