Expanding SCA's National Conservation Service Programs through Corporate GIS
Track: GIS Organization, Management, and Implementation
Author(s): Ben Butler

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) manages, promotes, and develops some 3,000 conservation service based internship possibilities throughout the United States. For fifty years the SCA has been placing interns in national parks, forests and other lands to carry out the mission of creating the next generation of conservation leaders. Managing the 3,000 plus internship sites comes with its own unique set of challenges. In an effort to minimize confusion, streamline customer service and provide a more unified front to agency partners, SCA has worked to develop an ArcIMS application to aid in information management. The IMS is hosted, managed, and maintained locally allowing for constant improvement and integration into all parts of the SCA's future plans. This presentation will overview the start-up, development and deployment of the SCAIMS system. It will discuss challenges in maintaining such a system and future plans to increase functionality.
