An Information System to Support Rain Water Collection and Purification
Track: Water Resources
Author(s): Jaime Velazquez-Alvarez, Marco Mijangos

An information system that was developed as a part of the project 'System for rain water collection and purification for use and human consumption in rural communities at the north of the State of Morelos' is showed. The system allows to display and query the geographic and statistical information associated to this study. The geographic information is made up of vector data corresponding to rivers, geology, land use and vegetation, highways and political division, among other themes, and raster data corresponding to the LANDSAT satellite image, orthophotos and digital elevation models. The statistical information is made up of climatologic and hydrometric data of the stations located in the basins that are inside the study area, and demographic indicators of the localities for which the system for rain water collection was implemented. Geographic information system capabilities were provided inside this information system by using the MapObjects ActiveX Component.
