Abstract CopaGIS: Water and Wastewater Network Edition and Management over Web Track: System Implementation for GIS Author(s): Alexandre Faria, Regina Cançado COPASA is the sanitation company of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It has over 11.000 employees covering a population of about 12 million people all over the state and serving approximately 4 million customers. Since 1995 it has been using GIS applications in the water distribution asset and management. At that time, GIS was a challenge in terms of developing a corporative and distributed application. High costs of ArcInfo licenses and UNIX workstations were a strong barrier to expand the GIS utilization. Fortunately, the expansion of GIS can now be achieved with the use of Web applications. This presentation shows COPASA experience in planning and developing a Web portal (CopaGIS), migrating legacy GIS applications into a new Web architecture based on ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE/Oracle technology. A review of the migrating process is proposed in order to evaluate the results of this two and a half million dollars project.
