Abstract Geodatabase Design for Land Asset Management Track: Cadastral and Land Records Author(s): Cynthia Phillips W.H. Shipman Limited on the east side of Hawai'i Island holds more than 17,000 acres in land assets. Approximately 5,000 acres are currently licensed or leased to outside entities for agricultural, commercial and residential endeavors, while some areas are set aside as core assets such as conservation areas, shoreline access, and historical sites. Previous management of these land assets has been primarily through the use of archaic databases and hard copy files. With the purchase of high resolution satellite imagery, the company decided to incorporate GIS and GPS into their management plan. The University of Hawai'i at Hilo Department of Geography and Environmental Studies was tasked with developing the parcel fabric from Land Court descriptions and a geodatabase which would hold all land management data, along with built-in queries and scripts with user-defined variables to meet the management and income projection needs of the company.
