Integration of Geo-Spatial Web Services Using Adobe Flex

Geo-spatial enabled web services enhance existing web applications resulting in innovative applications for complicated geo-spatial challenges. This presentation will show how the Adobe Flex development framework was used to create such a user-friendly Internet GIS application in which geo-spatial web services from different sources (both REST and SOAP) are integrated seamlessly. Examples of geo-spatial web services applied in this Flex Map Viewer include map services such as ArcGIS Server, ArcIMS, WMS and WFS, catalog services, geocoding services, a coordinate transformation service and graphing services. In addition to the usual Internet GIS application functionality, the application offers some innovative tools which allow end-users to share spatial data across the Internet. Because of the modular design of the application, adding new functionality is easy. On top of that, changing the user interface and adding support for additional data formats is a breeze.
