Implementing Georeferenced Imagery Acquired from a Civilian Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
Track: Remote Sensing Imagery
Author(s): Gregory Lewis

Historically, acquiring aerial imagery of relatively small areas in a timely manner has been a difficult and expensive venture. This has resulted in a number of practical applications not being able to realize the value that high resolution, georeferenced imagery could have. However, recent developments in civilian available Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) image acquisition systems, and the economics and flexibility they can offer, have given life to new and exciting practical imagery applications.

This presentation will outline a mini UAV based image acquisition platform and the procedures involved in acquiring, georeferencing and implementing the high resolution imagery obtained from this platform. In addition, three real world applications will be discussed; environmental monitoring in an active oil field, electric utility infrastructure monitoring and planning and agriculture.
