Abstract Creating Bathymetric Data of Standley Lake, Colorado Track: Water Resources Author(s): Bill Jeffrey As the water source for three cities, serving over 250,000 people, Standley Lake is an invaluable natural resource. A bathymetric map of the lake was created using sonar depth finding. Depth points were created by crisscrossing in an echo-sounder and GPS equipped boat over roughly the entire surface of the lake. The contours of the lake-bottom, as well as subsequent DEM, TIN, and Terrain data types were created in ArcInfo. Volumetric analysis was carried out in 3D analyst, showing a water volume of over 40,000 acre feet. Multi-frequency sonar pings were used to approximate various lake bottom materials, and BioSonics EcoSAV software was used to create 3D points of hard bottom, plant life, and fish groupings. This data is now used to aid in targeting invasive species of plants in the lake.
