Abstract A Business-Logic Approach to Mobile Field Data Collection Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Jacob Mundt, Brian Wilbur, Joe Berg The Weed, Pest, and Mosquito Abatement Department (WPM) at Ada County, Idaho (USA) is nearing completion of a fully automated work order system that integrates enterprise class databases and geographic data collection via ArcPad technology. WPM manages thousands of work orders annually, which are distributed to a field crew of approximately 25 employees. Using a distributed solution, work orders are extracted from a central DB2, processed, geo-located, and circulated to mobile crews using a single click interface. In ArcPad, users have a secure login-password environment where all of their work is recorded, geo-positioned, and uniquely identified. On return to the office, crews manually upload their work back to the DB2 and geo-databases, where it is archived, validated, and processed using a single click interface. Finally, the system has the ability to automatically invoice clients as appropriate. This presentation discusses the processes and ROI of this tool.
