Specialized Tools for Data Collection Using ArcPad

This presentation outlines the accomplishments of the GEOBASE program on Shaw Air Force Base in improving our data stewardship program. A specialized tool was developed to combine a number of actions taken when collecting data using ArcPad. The end result has reduced the amount of ArcPad understanding required of new data collectors making training quicker and easier. Through a simple button push and replying to a couple of forms, users can chose their data, start the GPS, begin editing and collect their points. There are guidelines to the setup of the actual devices that must be followed. These guidelines are meant to be followed and enacted by a person, either military or civilian, experienced with the use of the mobile devices including a full understanding of ArcPad. ArcPad Studio 7.0.1 was used in the development of this tool. It is a worthwhile combination of program and technical development.
