Petaquilla Minerals is one of the ten largest mining projects in the world. According to the Director and President of Petaquilla Minerals, "When fully implemented, it will become the second largest infrastructure project after the Panama Canal Expansion." To manage such a large mining development, Petaquilla Minerals implemented use of LiDAR technology with Esri products to plan and monitor the development of a 1,600-square-kilometer region of the mining area. The development includes building a 120,000-tone-a-day copper mine and a 5,000-tone-a-day gold mine; roads; a 600MW generating plant; a port; an international airport; a railway; and urban development. The use of LiDAR and Esri products has made possible the design of a sustainable development by monitoring the environmental and social impact of the region on a constant basis.
