NPDES (GIS) Compliance and ArcInfo Database Management in Hamilton County, Indiana
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): Kenton Ward, John Hannel

This presentation will cover storm water mapping and outfall collection to comply with NPDES Phase II regulations using Hamilton County, IN, as a case study. This program covers not only the task of mapping for NPDES regulations but also different reasons to map these facilities, including government regulations (NPDES, GASB34, CMOM) and efficiencies (better service, better reporting, and one source for all information). Attention will be given to different methods for mapping these facilities including field collection and inventory, which results in geographical accuracy, document research using historical and current information, and the use of ArcInfo to achieve a single source for managing data. The highlight of this case study covers how Hamilton County will be able to report on and leverage the value of their infrastructure, which includes a net gain in GASB 34 reported asset value of more than $207 million.
