GPS, Centerline and the APDM
Track: Pipeline
Author(s): Joe Bentley, James Moll, Carl Meinke

GE and Columbia Gas migrated data from a Framme based system to an Enterprise GIS. The migration project had worked out many data errors, but data was not spatially located properly. Columbia performed a gross level GPS data collection for its pipeline system. Attempting to adjust the pipeline to the newly acquired GPS, Columbia discovered that, as a feature based model, the adjustments could not be incorporated efficiently.

GE proposed a solution that temporarily utilized a leaner data model, and a small custom toolbar. Temporarily sacrificing the Data Integrity and metadata audits that APDM is designed to track for a much simpler and faster editing environment.

Funds were specifically planned for centerline cleanup.

Columbia Gas was able to put their Esri training to work on a large scale and quickly gain practical experience.

GE was able to push for allowance of Event classes in future versions of the APDM.
