Weaving a Cadastral Fabric from Coverage Parcel Geometries

The Land Records Division of the Ada County Assessor's Office has maintained land records information, including parcel geometries, in the form of ARC/INFO coverages since 1995. In 2006, we began the process of moving these coverages into an enterprise geodatabase and using its relational nature to eliminate redundancy and iron out a more streamlined workflow. Esri's introduction of the cadastral fabric coincided with the planning stages for our transfer of parcels into the geodatabase, and it offered us an opportunity to further customize both our geodatabase schema and our workflow to our needs. With this daunting task looming, Land Records contracted with 3Di West to provide support before and during the conversion. This presentation will explain our conversion process and discuss the successes and difficulties experienced during the transition.
