Abstract Not Just an ArcIMS Replacement - Implementing an ArcGIS Server Solution Track: GIS Organization, Management, and Implementation Author(s): Trent Park The Virginia Economic Development Partnership began in 2006 planning to implement an ArcGIS Server solution to enhance the performance and functionality of its online ArcIMS mapping application. As the ArcGIS Server implementation progressed the Partnership worked through road blocks and realized benefits that they had never planned on. This is a case study of one organization's transition from thick clients, raster databases, and IMS's limited functionality to high performing, powerful, internal and external web applications. Along the way we'll touch on the project planning process, hardware and software requirements, techniques for maximizing performance using layer caches, and the synergy that was created through cooperation with other organizations.
