Track: Disaster Management and Emergency Response
Author(s): Lynn Seirup

Good data are essential to providing GIS support for emergency planning and disaster management. The data need to be vetted and understood before a disaster strikes. This session will cover the data sets needed by an emergency management organization and discuss how these data sets are used, both in the planning stage and during response and recovery. It will discuss sources of data; management and organization of data; the importance of metadata; and ways to make sure that data can be found and utilized by GIS specialists working under pressure during an emergency activation.
