Abstract The Role of GIS in Wastewater Conveyance Systems Planning Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Shaun O'Neil GIS has become an integral tool for planning conveyance system improvements in the wastewater industry. King County is a wholesale treatement provider to 38 contributing agencies including the city of Seattle. Our service area encompasses 420 square miles and our facilities treat wastewater for over 1.4 million people. This paper will present how King County's Wastewater Treatment Division uses GIS to plan conveyance extensions and upgrades as the existing assets age and the population and service area grow.
