Abstract Urban Noise Mapping using 3D-GIS Track: Environmental Management Author(s): YongJoo Cho, GeunHan Kim, Hyeyoung Kim, Chulmin Jun Since the residential environment is greatly affected by the noise level, noise maps are being used increasingly in urban planning or design. However, most noise maps currently used are at regional scale and limited to 2D or 2.5D representations, it is impossible to express different levels of noise in a building. In order to represent the noise distribution varying not only horizontally but vertically, we need a different data structure than 2D GIS. In this paper, we expand 2D topological structure to 3D and show the process to build a 2D-3D hybrid data structure. We also test different situations of 3D spatial queries, visualization of temporal change of noise and varying noise levels with soundproofing walls.
