Abstract Decision Support System for Turkish Marine and Coastal Areas Track: Disaster Management and Emergency Response Author(s): Serife Bozkaya, Cihangir Aydöner Every day different kinds of high tonnage vessels go through the Turkish Strait endangering the public life and environment seriously. There were 1363 maritime accidents reported just last decade. Therefore, the establishment of an appropriate decision support system is rather important for the conservation of public life, and marine and coastal environment. In this paper, a multi-tier GIS based disaster management decision support system, which runs on the internet and supported by the GIS desktop applications, will be presented. The system will be used by the Maritime Affairs of Turkey at the end of the project as a new decision support system for the emergency response of the marine accidents happened in the Turkish marine coastal areas. The system analyzes the various environmental, economical, demographical, and supplemental data, and uses critical mathematical models to produce the optimum crisis management information by displaying the results on the maps.
