Using BLM's GeoCommunicator to display Oil and Gas Leases/Agreements
Track: Petroleum
Author(s): John Reitsma

This presentation will discuss and demonstrate recent developments within the BLM's National Integrated Land Systems' (NILS) GeoCommunicator, and how they relate to the oil and gas industries. Areas to be discussed include the more recently added data layers to GeoCommunicator including oil and gas stipulations, geothermal, coal leasing, grazing allotment and pastures, energy basins, and oil and gas lease sale parcels. The site also allows users to bring data layers from GeoCommunicator into their own datasets. Of particular interest to the oil and gas industries is the applications ability to search, locate, access, and spatially display the BLM oil and gas agreements and leases within the U.S., as well as being able to demonstrate links to LR2000 for detailed leasing information, subsurface mineral estate, Master Title Plats, Surface Management Agency, and PLSS land descriptions. GeoCommunicator is utilized by many industries including energy, title, utility, education, mining, and environmental interests.
