Abstract Integrating Survey & Parcel Data into NILS GeoCommunicator Track: Cadastral and Land Records Author(s): Robert Casias The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is responsible for cadastral survey, land and mineral use authorization, and resource management of the public lands. The National Integrated Land System (NILS) provides a common solution for the sharing of land record information within federal, state and local governments as well as the private sector. This presentation will include a demonstration of NILS and how cadastral survey and land management information and data can be accessed, and how users are able to create land descriptions. Additionally, NILS can be used to learn more about Federal leasing activities, mineral rights, oil and gas exploration, pastures, allotments, etc., and the jurisdictions in which they occur. NILS's publication web site, GeoCommunicator, provides for the distribution of the Public Land Survey System (PLSS), other survey-based data, and the federal surface management agency boundaries, all of which can be used as a basis to improve mapping accuracy.
