Department of National Defence Range Control Digitization Project
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Dave Findlay, Taylor Nicholls

In February 2007, eSolutions began working with the Canadian Department of National Defence in Gagetown, New Brunswick to develop a GIS capable of managing their training range operations. This project grew out of a Department of Defence assessment that the current approach to range management was proving to be insufficient in meeting evolving requirements. To achieve the level of functionality required, eSolutionsGroup selected Esri's ArcObjects to create a .NET network-based desktop solution capable of performing administrative and range control tasks such as uploading training schedules, re-locating units, stopping live fire events, and performing intersection testing on weapons vectors

The solution was deployed in September 2007 at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown in a pilot study to evaluate the usefulness of a fully digitized range control system.
