SurfNet GIS - Extending the Web Mapping Application

With the implementation of Esri's SOA, ArcGIS Server, new possibilities have emerged for the delivery and integration of GIS Services in the enterprise environment. The Web Mapping application is a great platform for which to start building a web based enterprise data access tool, but much must be done by the way of customizing and extending the application as well as the objects incorporated in the Web ADF. The City of Huntington Beach has developed an intranet application, SurfNet GIS, which demonstrates customizing the Web Mapping Application by adding needed functions including customized printing, graphics, and geoprocessing tasks. It also leverages the SOA approach by adding a spatial component to the business processes of various applications encapsulated within web services distributed throughout the enterprise.
