Portal Technology for Gas Transmission
Track: Pipeline
Author(s): Debra Rohrer, Mike Hoffman

In 2006 NiSource Gas Transmission and Storage concluded a two-year GIS platform and data model conversion initiative. This conversion necessitated NGT&S re-evaluate its previously deployed technologies, as most of those technologies would not be supported in its new GIS. NGT&S was becoming increasingly aware of GIS portal technologies as robust and inclusive solutions, not only for providing end users access to data, but in fact allowing them to interact with GIS data in more business substantial ways.

Today the NGT&S GIS Portal, an Esri Portal Toolkit based application, is being developed as an interactive tool where end user communities can pool data from a large variety of sources. In addition, Web Portal Meetings are being developed to allow largely dispersed audiences to share and interact, using GIS data, expediting decisions through data and knowledge sharing.
