The NATO Core GIS Project - A Capability Development Approach
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Andrew Page

This presentation will describe the NATO Core GIS Capability explaining the rationale for the Capability, what it actually purports to deliver. It will describe some of the challenges of delivering a Project when working as part of a Multi National Alliance and within the constraints of a rather demanding NATO procurement process. It will make the case and underline the importance of adopting a true Capability approach where Documentation, Training, Organisations, People, Leadership, Material, Facilities and Interoperability considerations need to be aligned to ensure a successful implementation. Of course NATO is also determined that we will enable the exchange and sharing of data which will lead me to describe some of our standardization initiatives and interfaces that have either been enacted or are planned to take place.
