Abstract JPL OnEarth, Datasets and Implementation Track: Parks and Natural Reserves Author(s): Lucian Plesea The DailyPlanet is a new addition to the OnEArth WMS server dataset collection, a result of JPL technology research providing rapid access of satellite to GIS users. The DailyPlanet is a continuously updating real-time MODIS Terra image of the earth. The DailyPlanet system processes more than 70GB of raw satellite data daily, generating an image covering the whole earth except polar-regions, at a resolution of about 250m per pixel. The system operates on one satellite scene at a time, providing most recent scenes on-line within half a day of capture. The availability of this dataset marks the first time a current, high-resolution image of the earth is available on a daily basis. The current DailyPlanet image is directly available to GIS users via WMS service from OnEarth, together with previous days archive. The DailyPlanet dataset and system are discussed, along with specifics of dataset integration into ArcGIS.
