Getting GIS and Other Enterprise Systems Into Daily Water/Wastewater Management
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): Ryen Tarbet, Rod Lovely, Steven Goates

The Northstar Community Services District provides water collection, treatment, and distribution services, and sewer collection and transmission services. Five years ago the District had no GIS, Asset Management, or other enterprise system in place. Today, the District has a substantial GIS infrastructure, a web based asset management system that leverages its GIS, and integrated web based accounting and billing systems. The District has committed to implementing best practices in the management of its assets, capital improvement planning, and document tracking in an effort to modernize the organization, dramatically increase operational and financial transparency, and to embrace asset management technology and best practices. Join the District's General Manager, Director of Public Works, and Information Systems Supervisor in a real time demonstration of the GIS and Asset Management techologies currently in use, and for a discussion of the lessons learned and barriers overcome as the system was implemented.
