Abstract Mapping the Human Terrain Joint Capability Technology Demonstration Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Joseph Watts The purpose of the Mapping the Human Terrain Joint Capability Technology Demonstration (MAP-HT JCTD) is to effectively collect, visualize, and integrate open-source socio-cultural information to assist Commanders in understanding the human terrain in which they operate. This human dimension of current and future battlefield landscapes is the very essence of irregular warfare and stability operations environments. Understanding local cultural, political, social, economic, and religious factors is crucial to successful counter-insurgency and stability operations, and ultimately, to success in the war on terror. The Toolkit displays information in multiple windows simultaneously and provides users with temporal, geospatial, and relationship-level data views. The geospatial components are built on the web applications of the Commercial Joint Mapping Toolkit (CJMTK). Initially developed for the Human Terrain System (HTS), MAP-HT JCTD is transitioning capabilities to the Distributed Common Ground System-Army (DCGS-A).
