A Multi-faceted Data Protection Strategy for Enterprise Geodatabases
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Chris Busskohl, Dave Williams, Michael Mannion

All databases face the threats of data loss and loss of service from hardware failure, natural disaster, user error, and other causes. Many production geodatabases, however, suffer from inadequate protection against these events, putting the users and organizations who depend on them at unnecessary risk. This presentation outlines a multi-faceted approach to avoiding data loss and returning enterprise geodatabases to service quickly after a disruption. The techniques discussed are used in practice at the U.S. Air Force Air Combat Command GeoBase program, and leverage common technologies available to many enterprise geodatabase environments. The goal of this session is to help other geodatabase administrators understand the tools at their disposal for guarding against both common and unusual loss events.
