Nationwide DGPS Project Status
Track: Federal Systems Implementation
Author(s): Bion Holbrook

This session will discuss the current status of the US Differential Global Positioning System. The DGPS network is an Inter-agency coordination primarily between the United States Coast Guard, FHWA, DOT, and Army Corp of Engineers and is made up of two different categories of sites, Nationwide NDGPS and Maritime MDGPS. The direction of the NDPGS program was to build NDGPS to full operating capability providing a dual coverage network that would cover the entire United States and Puerto Rico. Over the last few fiscal years the progress of NDGPS has been halted and put into jeopardy by budget cutbacks. DOT has taken a stop gap measure to ensure the NDGPS network is kept running until a decision has been made for its future. If no funding resources are found and DOT is no longer required to maintain NDGPS then a determination will be made by DOT as to its future.
