AbstractGIS Weather Data from NWS—2008 Track: Atmosphere, Climate, and Weather Author(s): Ira Graffman During the hurricane season of 2008, NOAA's (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) National Weather Service (NWS) ran a semi-operational ArcIMS site called EMHURR. This site was designed to provide Emergency Managers a means for accessing real time weather data both prior to and after the land fall of a tropical storm or hurricane. The system served out Tropical Storm/Hurricane information as GIS ready data (image, feature, WMS services, shapefile download). Weather warning polygons, satellite, and radar imagery were also available. Refinement of the services and the implementation of RIDGE II, the next generation of GIS ready radar imagery are planned for 2009.
