AbstractUSDA Forest Service GIS Initiative with Troy University, Alabama Track: Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management Author(s): Steve Ramroop, Stanley Glover, Xutong Niu, Justin Mott, William Bumbers In this paper the GIS project between USDA Forest Service and Troy University in Alabama is presented. The project’s aim is to provide work experience in the development and maintenance of GIS data resources on the National Forests in Alabama. This includes building metadata files for existing GIS data, updating existing data, preparing ArcGIS map templates for use by Forest Service specialists, conducting spatial analyses, and providing GIS technical support to Forest Service specialists and technicians. In this paper, the initial start-up and progress development of the project is presented, demonstrating the invaluable benefits to students, Troy University, and USDA Forest Service.
