Web Based Inventory Management Solution for Telecom
Track: Telecommunications and Location-Based Services
Author(s): Omar Bob, Amit Kumar, Ashok Singh

Qatar Telecom and RMSI have jointly created a web based solution for maintaining Telecom Network using Esri ArcGIS Server 9.2 and Oracle 9i. QTel is currently using ArcGIS desktop based software, Network Engineer (NE) for the design, documentation, and management of the physical network and associated inventory.

The application enables QTel to segregate people who do planning & designing from people who do viewing by providing new tools, reports and offsite viewing capabilities hitherto unavailable in NE. It will liberate the existing location and license dependency on NE.

The application will provide customized reports on network features e.g. Cabinets, Ducts and Cables etc. It’ll help generate network cross section, tracing of equipments and reports using ingenious algorithms developed on ArcObject libraries.

The paper underlines flexibility of Esri products to create customized web application. It highlights the key challenges faced in developing and integrating ArcGIS server based application for networked geodatabase.
