Streamlining Military Map Mass Production and Distribution with ArcGIS
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Holger Colin

This presentation will cover the streamlining of military map mass production and distribution using ArcGIS technology. Topics will include the whole production chain ranging from GPS data collection and aerial imagery digitizing into a single US SDSFIE spatial standard Personal Geodatabase. The process of map production in scales from 1:1,000 to 1:50,000 using multiple queries, standard symbology layers and map template documents will be outlined. Details will be given on the use of the standard symbology for the use on multiple image backgrounds, topographic maps or simple strip maps focusing on the various user groups which mainly are soldiers from NATO countries, their dependants and civilian employees. The presentation will be finalized with a look on means of mass distribution using (Geo)PDF, raster formats, large format prints and plots as well as digital distribution using ArcGIS web services as well as custom shape file viewers.
