Processing and Interpolating Raw Bathymetric Data Using ArcGIS
Track: Ocean, Coastal, and Marine Resources

The precision of an underwater acoustic simulation depends highly on the fidelity of the bathymetric data provided. Managing and processing bathymetric data to obtain the most precise calculations is a challenge. The most suitable tool for such geographical calculations is GIS software. In this work, the raw measurement data are used to obtain optimum bathymetric dataset for the simulation by using ArcGIS. The data files are merged, formatted, segmented and converted to ArcGIS format. Segmentation operation is necessary due to memory limitations. The converted data are interpolated by Geostatistical Analyst through some series of interpolation and sampling operations. The final raster is sampled using a predefined grid structure and exported to local database. In order to streamline the process with high fidelity and optimize the time required, the automation through Model Builder and Python scripting is implemented. The results obtained from the implemented software are consistent with the control dataset.
