Institute for Urban Policy Research's Dallas Indicators Project
Track: Census and Geodemographics
Author(s): Timothy Bray, Megan Heckert

Information empowers and motivates communities and policy makers, and The Institute for Urban Policy Research at the University of Texas at Dallas is dedicated to collecting and sharing that information with the public in the hope of improving quality of life. Focusing on six key indicators in the greater Dallas area--education, crime and safety, health, housing, social capital, and economic development--The Institute is bringing information, and the tools to interpret it, to the web. This presentation will highlight the ways in which a web-based system powered by ArcIMS and ArcSDE can bring advanced GIS and data analysis functionality to people with no specific training using no software other than a common web browser, and how dynamic geographic and geographically aggregated data can be incorporated into a content management system using web services.
