Joliet Improves Customer Service with CIS and Work Management Integration
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): James Moening, Jonathan Hall

The City of Joliet recently embarked upon an ArcGIS Server-based utility GIS. As part of this program, the City addressed a need to improve customer service communication and efficiency and increase the effectiveness of information exchange with their field operations staff.

Through the integration of the City’s Customer Information System, GIS, and work management system, the City has provided customer service, operations and GIS staff with a common picture of the utility’s current operational environment.

Utilizing this technology, the City gained the ability within a single mobile system, to perform asset-based preventative and correction maintenance work orders, customer turn-on, turn-off, and meter read service orders, GIS with redlining for map corrections and shared field notes, and GIS-based document retrieval and viewing capabilities.

This presentation will highlight the benefits realized and will focus on the technical and organizational challenges faced with the integration of multiple utility enterprise systems.
