AbstractThe Mix of Businesses and the Homeless Track: Census and Geodemographics Author(s): Linda Loubert Businesses and homelessness is not a logical mix, however many urban cities have the homeless persons within their downtown business section. By geocoding homeless providers, which stand as a proxy for location of the homeless, this study attempts to decipher if there is any pattern in the types of businesses that attract the homeless. The study examines four major cities within the U.S. Preliminary studies for one of the cities indicate that over half of the providers are within one mile of the central business district. Using Business Analyst to identify businesses, we can provide the types of businesses and the patterns that may exist for attracting the homeless. Linda Loubert Morgan State University 1700 E.
