AbstractBRWC Improves Accuracy and Increases Efficiency with Mobile GIS Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Dina Knight, Ryan Scardina, James Moening The Baton Rouge Water Company (BRWC) recently migrated their GIS from GeoMedia to Esri ArcGIS technology. With this migration came the ability to integrate complimentary technologies to enhance the accuracy of their GIS and increase the efficiency of field operations. With the implementation of a GIS-based mobile work and asset management solution, BRWC has provided operations and GIS staff a common framework for communicating critical information about BRWC’s utility infrastructure assets. Utilizing this technology, BRWC has gained the ability to perform asset-based inspections, mobile GIS with valve isolation tracing, GIS-based redlining for map corrections and shared field notes, and GIS-based document retrieval and viewing capabilities. This presentation will focus primarily on the technical and organizational challenges faced and highlight the benefits realized through the implementation of a GIS-based work and asset management solution.
